Why Visit Alva?

Where charm and adventure meet, Alva is located within 30 minutes of the most diverse outdoor recreation in all of Oklahoma! Alva was established on September 16, 1893, as a Land Office for the Cherokee Strip Land Run. It is home to Northwestern Oklahoma State University and serves as the County Seat for Woods County. Alva sits at the intersection of U.S. Highways 281 and 64, just 17 miles south of the Kansas line.

30 Minutes Closer to Adventure!

The Salt Plains State Park,, Little Sahara State Park, and Alabaster Caverns State Park all offer exceptional outdoor recreational opportunities within just 30 minutes of Alva.  Each of these natural treasures provides a completely different experience! You can find kayaking, camping, fishing, hiking, birding, and salt crystal digging at the Salt Plains State Park and Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge near Jet. At Alabaster Caverns in Freedom, visitors will experience bat watches, cave tours, spelunking, hiking, and camping.  Little Sahara State Park in Waynoka offers over 1,600 acres of ATV and Dune Buggy terrain with RV and tent camping available.
