Things To Do & See

The recreational opportunities that surround Alva are remarkable! From the Salt Plains State Park and Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge with its kayaking, fishing, and watchable wildlife excursions to the Alabaster Caverns State Park for those interested in exploring nature’s deep bat ecology, there is truly something for everyone. At Little Sahara State Park, off-road vehicles take center stage. Hundreds of acres of sand dunes await all those whose ideas of good times include racing dune buggies and climbing tall dunes with an ATV.  The athletic events at Northwestern Oklahoma State University and the Alva Recreation Complex are sure to excite athletes and “arm-chair” quarter-backs alike.  Rodeo and all things “cowboy and cowgirl” can be found in Alva and the surrounding region as well.  We invite everyone to join us for the Big Cruise and Car Show each September and check out Oklahoma’s Mural Capitol when you visit. Alva is home to over 35 murals that depict the history of the region. The cultural scene in Alva is full of the performing and visual arts. We hope to see you soon in Alva!
